2010 SUMMER OPEN MIC SEASON AT MEADOWOOD
First one May 15, 6:00 to 9:00 pm
Date posted: 05/03/10

The 2010 Meadowood open mic season begins on May 16, from 6:00 to 9:00 pm.  As in previous years, Meadowood will host open mics one Saturday each month, May through September.  The open mics are a venue for acoustic musicians to play just one tune or up to 15-minutes of music for a live audience.  The open mic is on the back lawn at the store.  There is no fee for performeres or audience.  The dates for the 2010 open mics are MAY 15, JUN 19, JUL 17, AUG 21, SEP 18 (if it is raining, we cancel; call becore coming if the weather is questionable).  Acoustic acts perform musical sets up to 15 minutes long with content appropriate for a family audience (you may perform only one tune if you don't have 15 minutes of music). To perform, musicians can call to register in advance or just show up (because the roster fills quickly, we recommend calling in advance).  Audience members need only bring their desire to hear great local acoustic musicians. Because the "seating" that we provide is limited, please feel free to bring lawn chairs or blankets or to sit directly on the grass. The open mics are a great community event. We'd love to have you join us. <...more>

OPEN JAMS - PLACES TO PLAY WITH OTHERS
Dates and Locations
Date posted: 05/10/09

Meadowood hosts Old-time, Bluegrass and Classical jams at the store.  Here is a listing of them:

Meadowood's Old-time Jam is on the fourth Friday evening per month from 7-9 pm. Meadowood banjo and fiddle teachers, Tom and Betty Druckenmiller, along with Carl Adams host the jam at the store. The jam is open to any musician interested in learning and trading tunes in the old-time style.

Meadowood has two Bluegrass jams; one is every Tuesday from 6 to 9, and the other is a slow jam on the 1st and 3rd Thursdays from 7 to 8. Mike & Paula host the Bluegrass jams on Tuesdays; Mike hosts the jams on Thursdays. The jams are open to any musician interested in playing Bluegrass music - beginning players will have more lead opportunities in the slow jam.

Meadowood hosts a string "jam" for the more classically-bent, on the second Thurs of the month from 6:30 to 8 (September through May - the jam takes a summer break during Jne, July and August). Meadowood violin teacher, Judy Terwilliger hosts the "Classical Jam." All violin, viola, cello and upright bass players interested in playing for fun are welcome (music is available for all levels/ages of players - please bring your own music stand).

Other organizations in the area also host jams for Old-time, Bluegrass, Blues, Country, Swing, Folk and Celtic Music.  A brief listing appears below.  Additional details are available on another page of this web site (click RESOURCES above, then click PERFORMING VENUES, then click JAMS).

Celtic sessions occur at the Ugly Oyster in Reading (every Thurs of the month) and Granny McCarthy's Tea Room in Bethlehem (3rd Thurs of each month).

Folk music jams occur in Allentown and Reading, hosted by The Lehigh Valley Folk Music Society (Allentown - 3rd Wed each month) and Full Circle Music Society (Reading - 2nd Tues of each month).

Oldtime, Swing and Blues jams are hosted at Godfrey Daniels in Bethlehem (1st Tue of each month, 3rd Tue of each month, 4th Wed of each month). If you have any questions, please feel free to call or email Meadowood (contact information is available if you click "Contact Us" at the bottom of the navigation bar at the left of this page).
