The workshop schedule for the 2010 festival is complete, instructors confirmed. This year, we've added many things: a 'from scratch' fiddle, bass and banjo sessions for people who have never played the instruments before, a mentored jam for folks who are new to playing with others, an intermediate fiddling, guitar, and bass workshop along with an advancing guitar, banjo, mandolin, lap dulcimer, hammered dulcimer and advanced fiddle repertoire. Completely new to the festival, we've added a flat-footing session.
These additions are on top of last year's fiddle, banjo, mandolin, guitar, string jam and vocal sessions. Also new this year: an instrument builder's panel discussion during the lunch hour. Builders with experience with fiddles, banjos and guitars will talk about wood selection, the process and tools of building, the joy and frustration, the elation when you hear the first sounds from the instrument, the differences between and OK, good and excellent instrument AND how to care for your instrument so it lasts more than a lifetime.
Like last year, children 12 and under can attend everything for free. Folks who come to jam, but don't want to participate in workshops will be asked for a small donation to help fund this very cool event. Admission for adults who attend all day, workshops AND the evening concert, will be $25 if tickets are purchased in advance. Admission for the workshops only, when purchased in advance, will be $20. Tickets for just the evening concert will be $10 (either in advance or at the gate). Advance tickets are available right NOW at Meadowood Music if you buy them with cash. We will be able to accept checks, debit and credit card after July 12.
Festival location: Maier's Grove, Grove Road, Blandon, PA 19510
